It also closes from Christmas through 1 January inclusive. A visit between the holidays therefore works only for the village lanes, not the castle. The S-Bahn stop is below the village, with an uphill walk of about 20 minutes.
Plan the castle in the morning, return to the centre in the afternoon and keep Stadtsoldatenplatz for the evening. In ice or heavy rain, drop the hilltop part and stay in town.
