The St Nicholas market at the Kulturhof and Kulturzentrum August Everding in Bottrop takes place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December 2026, according to two municipal sources. It is a separate event from the city-centre Weihnachtszauber, so plan the Kulturhof first and add only one other market section afterwards. The Bottrop Christmas Markets 2026 guide includes a complete route for this weekend.

A separate event with its own weekend

The Kulturhof event is its own weekend market. Neither the St Nicholas name nor its city-centre setting guarantees the same hours as the Weihnachtszauber on Hansastraße, Mensingplatz or the town-hall square. Its short run makes it a reason to choose your travel date carefully. It is not an extra you can add on any Advent day.

One general sentence about the event's traditional timing does not match the specific dates. Our guide follows the annual dates the city gives for 2026: 5–6 December. Daily hours, performances and workshops are published separately, so revisit the daily programme once it is out.

Check the programme before you travel

General city-centre opening does not tell you when individual workshops or performances happen, or whether they require registration. Before you set your arrival time, look for:

  • Daily hours: for Saturday and Sunday separately.
  • Activities: is there a performance or hands-on activity that makes the trip special for you?
  • Registration: an activity that needs it belongs in your plan only after confirmation.
  • Indoors or outdoors: which parts are where, and where you will meet again.

Especially with children, one confirmed activity is more useful than a long list of possibilities.

How to plan the St Nicholas weekend

The Kulturhof is the fixed anchor. Set your arrival by its programme and do not squeeze an event with a limited run between two arbitrary shopping stops.

  1. Kulturhof first: take a quick shared look around and agree on a meeting point.
  2. Break: a warm seated stop, booked if you are a group.
  3. Decide on a second area: families may want only a short extra. Adults with more time can make the town-hall square their evening stop if hours fit. On Saturdays it is listed until 22:00, on Sundays until 20:00.
  4. Return: saved in advance, with a buffer.

Keep the second section optional. The main purpose of the day has already been fulfilled at the Kulturhof.

With two days

Do not repeat the same circuit twice. Give one day to the St Nicholas market and the centre, and the other to a quieter cultural or city discovery. The Quadrat museum complex is open to individual visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 17:00, and the Tetraeder remains a weather-dependent option. Avoid building Sunday around a long chain of tight connections. After a full Saturday, an easy journey home may be the better memory.

At the Kulturhof

A cultural centre is not automatically a continuously accessible rest area for all market visitors. Follow signs and staff guidance. With a clear departure time, you can decide calmly whether everyone still has energy for the town-hall area.

Before you go

  • Open the daily programme and save the return journey.
  • Limit children's wish lists to one shared highlight.
  • Choose a warm break in advance.
  • Book accommodation with flexible conditions if the weekend is your only option.
