Strasbourg Christmas market 2026: dates and opening hours
The main Strasbourg Christmas markets open on Friday 27 November 2026 and close on 24 December. Here are the hours, the exceptions and the separate Marché OFF calendar.
The city of Strasbourg lists its main Christmas markets from Friday 27 November to Thursday 24 December 2026. Opening day runs from 14:00 to 21:00, regular hours after that are 11:00 to 21:00, and on 24 December the markets close at 18:00. No stalls stay open from 25 December. The main market calendar for 2026
The city's FAQ is the source for the main season. It covers the eight market areas on the official Christmas website, from the historic Chrìstkìndelsmärik on Place Broglie to the Quai des Délices beside the water. The calendar is short and clear, but it has two exceptions worth noting before you book a train.
Friday 27 November: opening day, 14:00 to 21:00. A morning arrival on that day means waiting until the afternoon.
28 November to 23 December: regular hours, 11:00 to 21:00.
Thursday 24 December: a shorter day, 11:00 to 18:00.
From 25 December: the city states explicitly that no market stalls remain open.
Illuminations and sightseeing after Christmas are a different matter from open sales stalls. If you are planning a trip between Christmas and New Year, treat it as a city visit rather than a market visit.
Marché OFF keeps its own dates
Marché OFF on Place Grimmeissen focuses on the social and solidarity economy and has a separate announcement. Its co-organiser, CRESS Grand Est, gives 25 November to 24 December 2026, daily from 11:00 to 20:00. Three details follow from this.
Earlier start: on 25 and 26 November, OFF may be open while Broglie, Kléber and the other main markets are not.
Earlier close: OFF lists 20:00, one hour before the main markets.
Christmas Eve: the announcement gives no separate hours for 24 December, and the body of the text contains a conflicting end date. Do not plan a late visit that day on the standard hours alone.
Museums follow a different rhythm
Many visitors combine a market with a cultural stop. The guide uses two venues near the markets, and their hours do not match the market calendar.
5e Lieu, Place du Château: Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 to 18:00, Sunday 11:00 to 17:00. Closed on Mondays and on 25 and 26 December, and it closes at 16:00 on 24 December.
Historical Museum: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, weekends 10:00 to 18:00, last tickets at 17:30. Closed on Mondays and on 25 December.
A Monday works for the markets, but not for these two venues. If you can choose, a Tuesday to Sunday gives you more options for a break indoors.
How to check the hours for your date
The guide points out that several official websites show 2026 information alongside text left over from 2025. An updated heading does not confirm every detail further down the page. Before you travel, ask three questions: does the information apply to 2026, does it refer to this exact place, and is there an exception for my date?
On arrival, the information points at the station and on Place Kléber can give you the current market map. Save the exact square name of your first market, because 'Strasbourg Christmas market' is too vague for a map search or a meeting point.
