The Feria de Santo Tomás takes place on Monday 21 December 2026, confirmed by Donostia Kultura. It is a single festival day with an agricultural focus, separate from the multi-week Christmas market. The farm produce exhibition is announced from 09:00 on Plaza de la Constitución, and two txistorra competitions start at 11:00. The San Sebastián Christmas markets guide includes a full route for Santo Tomás day.

What is the Feria de Santo Tomás?

On 21 December the fair turns parts of the city into a celebration of farm produce. Txistorra and competitions around regional products define its character. Donostia Kultura describes txistorra served in talo or bread as the usual combination. Talo is a griddle-cooked flatbread whose traditional description names maize flour and water.

Santo Tomás is the strongest reason to travel on that particular Monday. It is not an event you can catch on any Advent weekend. The Christmas market beside the Urumea and on Plaza Ramón Labayen runs at the same time and can complement the day, but there is no need to cover all of it.

What is announced for the morning?

  • 09:00, Plaza de la Constitución: start of the farm produce competition and exhibition.
  • 11:00, Plaza de Gipuzkoa: start of the txistorra competition.
  • 11:00, Calle Elkano: start of the cooking competition featuring txistorra.

These are start times for individual events, not opening hours for every stall. Two activities begin at 11:00, so it is not practical to put both into your plan as consecutive stops. Choose the one that interests you most. For some other competitions, the publication did not yet give a final location, and the guide does not turn them into fixed stops.

How do you plan the day?

  1. From 09:00: start at Plaza de la Constitución and follow the actual layout and visitor routes on the day.
  2. From 11:00: choose either the txistorra competition on Plaza de Gipuzkoa or the cooking competition on Calle Elkano.
  3. With a break: browse further festival stalls and try txistorra in talo. Ask about portion size, ingredients and price at the individual stall.
  4. Optional later: if you still have energy, add one area of the Christmas market from 16:30. Otherwise finish with a meal.

Because 21 December is a Monday, San Telmo and Tabakalera are normally closed, and the guide does not assume any special opening. If Santo Tomás is your main reason for travelling, staying the night before gives you a calmer start than a tightly timed arrival that morning.

Eating at the fair

For your first order, one portion is enough to judge the flavour and how filling it is. If two of you are travelling together, ask about a portion to share. Check whether the displayed price covers the food alone, a drink or a combination. A photo from a previous year tells you nothing about this year's prices or portions.

If you need to avoid certain ingredients, ask before joining the queue. For a vegetarian visit, plan a separate food stop: the guide does not promise a vegetarian option at every festival stall. A useful phrase is “¿Qué ingredientes lleva?”, which means “What ingredients does it contain?”

No. It is a separate one-day event. The Christmas market runs for several weeks on Paseo del Urumea and Plaza Ramón Labayen.

Is there a full timetable yet?

Not as of late October. Some competitions have been announced, but these do not yet form a complete schedule for all stalls and activities.
