Bottrop Christmas market 2026: dates and opening times for every area
The Bottrop Weihnachtszauber runs from 12 November to 20 December 2026, but each area has its own hours. Here are the dates and times for the town-hall square, the daily areas and the two special weekends.
The Bottrop Weihnachtszauber is advertised for 12 November to 20 December 2026. Hansastraße and Mensingplatz are listed daily, Monday to Saturday from 11:00 to 21:00 and on Sundays from 15:00 to 20:00, while the town-hall square has regular hours mainly from Friday to Sunday. Two separate events, the Kirchhellen Wintertreff (27–29 November) and the St Nicholas market at the Kulturhof (5–6 December), have their own dates. The season and why the day matters
The most useful thing to understand before you plan is the difference between the overall season and the days when a particular area actually opens. The season runs for almost six weeks, but within that period the square in front of the town hall and the daily market areas follow different schedules. A Thursday in November is therefore a different trip from a Saturday in December.
When you choose a date, check three things together: the place, the day and the time. The season dates alone do not tell you whether the area you have in mind is open when you arrive.
Opening times by area
Town-hall square (Ernst-Wilczok-Platz): opening evening on Thursday 12 November, 17:00–22:00. After that, regular hours are Friday 17:00–22:00, Saturday 15:00–22:00 and Sunday 15:00–20:00, with special dates added by the organiser.
Hansastraße and Mensingplatz: Monday to Saturday 11:00–21:00, Sunday 15:00–20:00. Mensingplatz is also called the Phoenix-Quartier in current organiser information.
Totensonntag, 22 November: the daily areas are listed for 18:00–20:00 only. Do not apply normal Sunday hours to this day of remembrance.
Final weekend, 19–20 December: special hours of 15:00–22:00 according to the organiser.
For a weekday visit, the daily areas are the reliable starting point. If you want the ice-stock lanes and the Traubenhütte on the town-hall square, plan a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.
The two special weekends
Two short events give certain weekends a different character. They are separate from the Weihnachtszauber and do not automatically share its hours.
Kirchhellen Wintertreff, Friday 27 to Sunday 29 November: around Johann-Breuker-Platz in Kirchhellen, a district of Bottrop outside the city-centre circuit. The daily programme needs to be checked separately.
St Nicholas market at the Kulturhof, Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December: at the Kulturhof and Kulturzentrum August Everding. Two municipal sources agree on these dates. Daily hours are published separately.

How to choose your date
Start with your main reason for coming, then pick the date. A few examples from the guide's comparison table:
Short weekday visit: the daily city-centre areas, plus a seated break or a shopping stop.
Market and evening atmosphere: the town-hall area on an opening day, with Hansastraße or Mensingplatz as an addition.

A district visit: the Kirchhellen Wintertreff with time in the local centre.
Book accommodation only after you have decided on the main reason for your trip. Seeing both special weekends means two visits or a longer stay.

The daily areas on Hansastraße and Mensingplatz are listed from 11:00 to 21:00 on Mondays. The town-hall square's regular hours concentrate on the weekend, so do not plan a Monday around it without a published special date.
Can I visit the Bottrop markets after Christmas?
The central season in our research ends on 20 December 2026. Do not infer later market opening from illuminations or old photographs.
