Getting to the Amiens Christmas Market by Train and Bus

Amiens is easy to reach without a car. The first chalets are a walk from the station, and local buses help with the rest. Here is how to plan outward and return journeys.

You can reach the Amiens Christmas market by train without any transfer: the organisers describe Gare d’Amiens as within walking distance of the first chalets, with rue de Noyon leading to the market. Plan outward and return trains together, and use Ametis buses only for destinations further away. See our Amiens weekend page for a two-day plan built around the station.

From the station to the market

The stated approach from Gare d’Amiens is on foot along rue de Noyon. This makes Amiens convenient for a day trip, because the market is in the city centre rather than on an out-of-town site. Still, check the exact route to your first stop if you have luggage or specific access needs. Save Gare d’Amiens as a destination on your phone for the trip home.

If you arrive with a suitcase, arrange storage at your accommodation first. The guide warns that expecting a museum or other venue to take luggage without prior arrangement is unreliable.

Booking your trains

  • Book for your actual date: a journey time on a tourism website is not a timetable. The guide gives no fixed December departures for this reason.
  • Check both directions together: especially if you want to stay for the evening.
  • Changes in Paris: for international journeys or a change in Paris, note the station used by each connection.
  • Save offline: your ticket, the station, your accommodation address and your return connection. Check your operator’s notices on the day.

Chroma and the last train

If Chroma on the cathedral is your main reason to come, plan the evening first. The light presentation starts at 19:00 and the event page gives a duration of 50 minutes, between 27 November and 27 December. Add the walk back to the station and a buffer. If that does not fit your connection, the guide suggests seeing the cathedral in daylight instead or staying the night. The market’s closing time does not replace this return planning.

Local buses: Ametis, free Saturdays and Noctibus

  • Network: Ametis describes four main Nemo routes operating Monday to Sunday. Sunday services are less frequent than weekday services. Use the timetable for your stop and direction.
  • Free Saturdays: the city and the market organiser state that Ametis buses are free on Saturdays. Check with the operator before travelling; this does not cover Sundays.
  • Contactless payment: Ametis offers it, with automatic fare capping. Always use the same payment medium, so do not switch between a physical card and the same card on your phone.
  • Late connections: Noctibus offers certain connections on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from Saint-Leu and Gare du Nord, for defined areas. Check that your destination is served.
  • Access: Ametis lists low-floor buses, ramps and audible and visual stop information. These say nothing about the paving of an old-town lane, so check the onward walk.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a bus from Amiens station to the Christmas market?

Usually not. The stated approach along rue de Noyon is on foot. For other destinations, use the current Ametis journey planner.

Are buses in Amiens free during the Christmas market?

The city and the organiser mention free Ametis buses on Saturdays. Other days need a ticket or contactless payment.

Can I still catch a train after Chroma?

It depends on your connection. Allow for the 19:00 start, about 50 minutes of presentation, the walk to the station and a buffer.

The Amiens Christmas guide (PDF) includes the transport pages, Route 1 for a train day trip and a departure checklist.
