Zaragoza Christmas market weekend: arrival, where to stay and a two-day plan
A two-day Advent trip to Zaragoza works well by train to Zaragoza-Delicias, with a tram or bus into the old town. Build the plan around the least flexible event, ideally the craft fair on 4-8 December, and add Plaza del Pilar once its market dates are confirmed.

How do you plan a Christmas market weekend in Zaragoza?
Arrive at Zaragoza-Delicias on Calle Rioja 33 and plan a separate journey to your accommodation, as the station is not near Plaza del Pilar. Stay in the old town if the market and museums are your focus. On day one, drop your luggage, visit a museum or church and spend the evening at El Pilar if the market is confirmed open. On day two, choose one craft fair session (11:00-14:00 or 17:00-21:00 on 4-8 December) that suits your train home.

How do you get from Zaragoza-Delicias to the Christmas market?
Treat the transfer from the station as a separate stage of your trip. Luggage, the right exit and the walk to a stop all take time.
Zaragoza-Delicias
The station is at Calle Rioja 33. Adif lists it as open from 05:30 to midnight and describes connections by city bus, taxi and other transport. Save the full address of your accommodation and your first destination before you arrive, rather than simply aiming for the city centre.
Tickets and hours
The tram runs daily from 05:00 to midnight, until 01:30 on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before public holidays. A single ticket costs €1.70: buy it at the stop's machine and validate it on board within one hour. It does not include a transfer, so a return trip is €3.40 per person.
Avanza buses and park-and-ride
Check the route on Avanza's current network; the published overview map dates from August 2025. If you drive, the tram operator lists a fare-linked parking rate at its park-and-ride sites. That parking is not free, so check conditions and duration together.
Where should you stay for the Zaragoza Christmas market?
Choose the area by the journeys you will repeat. The guide compares three starting points; individual hotels were not checked.
El Pilar and the old town
The natural base if the market, the churches and the Foro museum shape your stay. Compare places by their actual route to Plaza del Pilar. On a busy street, ask which way the room faces and check access with luggage.
Near the craft fair
If the fair at Paseo Isabel la Católica 2 is your main reason to come, compare the journey there and the evening journey back from the old town. The Mercado Gourmet near Parque Grande was still unconfirmed, so do not choose the area for it alone.
Close to Delicias
A room near the station can help with an early departure. Being near Delicias does not mean a short walk to the old town, so include the daily journeys to the market and sights in your comparison. A room with a reliable return connection is often more practical than one described only as central.
Two days in Zaragoza in Advent
Our suggestion for one night that includes at least one craft fair day between 4 and 8 December. Reverse the days if your arrival time suits it better.
-
Day 1 · Arrival
Luggage and the old town
Check in or leave your bags, then choose one confirmed cultural visit, such as the Museo del Foro or a church with visitor access.
-
Day 1 · Evening
Plaza del Pilar and the lights
Visit the market if its opening is confirmed, then walk a short lit stretch such as Calle Alfonso before heading back to your room.
-
Day 2 · 11:00 or 17:00
The craft fair
Visit the fair at Paseo Isabel la Católica 2 in one session, 11:00-14:00 or 17:00-21:00. Pick the one that fits your departure.
-
Day 2 · Midday
A break by Parque Grande
During the fair's closure from 14:00 to 17:00, have lunch and, if the weather suits, take a walk in the park.
-
Day 2 · Before leaving
Luggage and your train
Collect bags in good time and plan the journey to Delicias with an earlier target time than your departure.

Frequently asked questions
Is one night enough for the Zaragoza Christmas market?
For most visitors, yes. One evening at Plaza del Pilar, a museum or church visit and one craft fair session fit into two days. Start with the least flexible event, such as the five-day fair, and arrange the old town and breaks around it. The Aljafería needs its own block of time if you add it.
How far is Zaragoza-Delicias station from Plaza del Pilar?
Far enough that you should plan a separate journey. The station is on Calle Rioja 33 and is not the starting point of the old-town routes. Check the bus or tram connection for your arrival day and allow time for luggage and finding the correct exit.
Where is the best area to stay in Zaragoza at Christmas?
It depends on your main interest. The old town suits a stay built around El Pilar, the churches and the Foro museum. For the craft fair on 4-8 December, compare places by the journey to Paseo Isabel la Católica 2. Near Delicias only makes sense for an early train.
Can I visit the craft fair on the day I leave Zaragoza?
Yes, if you pick the right session. The morning session runs from 11:00 to 14:00 and suits an afternoon departure. The evening session ends at 21:00, which does not automatically fit your last train. Collect your luggage in good time and plan the trip to the station separately.
