ADVENT 2026 · GOSLAR · BAD WEATHER PLAN
Goslar Christmas market in the rain: indoor options and a plan B
When it rains in Goslar, shorten the outdoor part and build the day around one open museum and a proper warm break. The Christmas forest does not promise covered space, so short market stages work better than a long circuit.

What can you do in Goslar when it rains during the Christmas market?
Start with an indoor visit in the morning. The Tin Figure Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00 (closed Mondays, 24 and 25 December and 1 January), and the Imperial Palace keeps museum hours of Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00 with last admission at 16:30. At midday, take a dry break in an open café or restaurant and book if a seat matters. In the afternoon, visit just one market area, Marktplatz or Schuhhof, and decide from the weather whether to continue. Rammelsberg is not a spontaneous rain option: it runs only on 12 and 13 December and needs a ticket.

Where can you go indoors in Goslar on a rainy Advent day?
The guide names a small number of reliable indoor anchors. Check each one for your date, as holiday closures differ.
Tin Figure Museum
Miniature scenes that reward slow looking, which suits a wet morning. Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00, closed on Mondays and on 24 and 25 December and 1 January; 26 and 31 December are listed as open. Adults pay €6, reduced €5, family ticket €14. Accessibility is limited, so ask about conditions beforehand.
Imperial Palace
The Imperial Hall's nineteenth-century paintings interpret medieval history through the eyes of that period. Museum hours are Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00, last admission 16:30, adult admission €7.50. Outdoor areas are under construction since late September 2026, so allow time for changed access routes.
Goslarsche Höfe
Until 5 December, the Hof-Forum at Okerstraße 32 hosts a festive decoration sale indoors. Hours are Monday to Friday 09:00-18:00 and Saturday 09:00-14:00, entry is free. It is a good dry stop for anyone interested in nativity scenes, pyramids or candle arches.
How do you enjoy the Goslar Christmas market when the weather is poor?
Rain changes the pace rather than the plan. Short stages and one clear break keep the day pleasant.
One market area at a time
Begin on Marktplatz or Schuhhof rather than trying to see all three areas in one go. After each stage, decide together whether another block is still enjoyable. A shorter circuit with a good break is a complete day plan, not a compromise.
A real seat, not just a hot drink
A hot drink outdoors does not replace sitting down somewhere warm. Choose an open business, check its hours directly and reserve if a seat is essential, especially around Christmas when normal weekly hours may not apply. Place the break between your first circuit and a later Schuhhof visit.
Keep gifts dry
Rain is hard on paper wrapping and delicate decorations. Bring a bag that closes, ask how fragile items are packed and plan purchases for the end of a stage. For bulky items, think about transport before you buy, and allow room in your luggage for anything delicate.

Frequently asked questions
What if it rains at the Goslar Christmas market?
Keep the market part short and build the day around an indoor anchor. The Tin Figure Museum and the Imperial Palace are open Tuesday to Sunday. Have lunch somewhere warm, then visit one market area and decide from there. The market itself is outdoors and the Christmas forest does not promise any covered space.
Is the Christmas forest on Schuhhof covered?
The guide states that the Christmas forest does not promise a covered place to stay. Treat it as an outdoor walk among illuminated trees. In heavy rain, keep the visit short, take a few photographs and move on to your indoor break rather than waiting under the branches.
Is Rammelsberg a good rainy-day alternative?
Only on its event weekend and only with a ticket. The Rammelsberg Christmas market runs on 12 and 13 December, 11:00-18:00, with parts above and below ground. On other days the ordinary museum programme applies, which is a different offering. Do not plan it as a spontaneous plan B.
Which museums are open in Goslar on Mondays in December?
Neither the Tin Figure Museum nor the Imperial Palace opens on Mondays. On a rainy Monday, plan a shorter market visit with a long indoor break, or move your museum visit to another day. Also note the Tin Figure Museum's closures on 24 and 25 December and 1 January.
