THE MARKETS

Where are the Christmas markets in Goslar?

Goslar's Advent season has a central circuit and a separate excursion. Most visitors start in the old town and add Rammelsberg only on its weekend.

CITY CENTRE

Marktplatz and Marktkirchhof

The main market occupies Marktplatz and continues on Marktkirchhof. Start with an orientation circuit, note the stalls that interest you and agree on a meeting point at the edge of the activity. Access is free; shopping, food and cultural visits are separate costs. The stall selection can change, so the guide does not promise individual products.

SCHUHHOF

The Christmas forest

On Schuhhof, illuminated trees turn the market into a small walk among evergreens. It is normally open until 22:00, later than the market squares. That later closing is not confirmed for 24, 25, 26 or 30 December, so check directly with the organiser before a late visit on those dates.

BERGTAL 19

Rammelsberg above and below ground

On 12 and 13 December the mining museum hosts a Christmas market with crafts, food, music and children's activities above and below ground, 11:00-18:00. You need an admission ticket and a transport plan, as there is no visitor parking at the museum that weekend. Treat it as its own time block.

HOLIDAY HOURS

What are the Goslar Christmas market opening times over Christmas?

Most days follow the usual 11:00-20:00 pattern. Four dates are different, and the forest's later closing does not automatically apply to them.

24 DEC

Christmas Eve: morning only

On 24 December the city-centre market opens 11:00-14:00. An afternoon route does not work that day. If you are in Goslar on Christmas Eve, plan a late-morning circuit and keep the rest of the day free. The Tin Figure Museum is closed on 24 December.

25/26 DEC

Christmas Day and Boxing Day

On both holidays the market opens at noon and closes at 19:00. The Tin Figure Museum is closed on 25 December but listed as open on 26 December, which makes Boxing Day a good combination of a morning exhibition and an afternoon market circuit.

30 DEC

The final day

The season ends on 30 December with hours of 11:00-18:00. There is no market promise for New Year's Eve, so make a separate plan for 31 December. For a late forest visit on the last day, confirm the specific opening with the organiser.

BEYOND THE SQUARES

Which other Advent stops are there in Goslar in 2026?

Two smaller additions are worth knowing about, each with its own dates and hours.

23 NOV – 5 DEC

Goslarsche Höfe decoration sale

A seasonal sale of Christmas pyramids, tree decorations, nativity scenes, figures and candle arches in the Hof-Forum at Okerstraße 32. Hours are Monday to Friday 09:00-18:00 and Saturday 09:00-14:00, with no Sunday opening listed. Entry is free. It is an indoor sale, not a second evening market.

MUSEUM

Tin Figure Museum

Open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-17:00, closed on Mondays and on 24 and 25 December and 1 January. Adult admission is €6, reduced €5 and a family ticket €14. On 5 December it hosts a nativity-scene workshop, with the kit listed at €9.

FAMILIES

Christmas workshop at the MachMit!Haus

The organiser announces a Christmas workshop on Marktplatz with crafts, play and supervision, in a recurring pattern of Saturdays and Sundays on the second to fourth Advent weekends, 13:00-18:00. The announcement is undated, so check the published 2026 programme before you build a trip around it.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is the Goslar Christmas market free?

Yes, access to the city-centre Christmas market on Marktplatz, Marktkirchhof and Schuhhof is free. You pay for food, drinks, gifts and any museum you add. The Rammelsberg Christmas market on 12 and 13 December is ticketed: €9 for the market or €16 with the Roeder tunnel walk, with reduced tickets at €5 and €10.

How late is the Goslar Christmas forest open?

The Christmas forest on Schuhhof is normally open until 22:00, two hours longer than the usual market hours. That later closing is not a confirmed extension of the special hours on 24, 25, 26 and 30 December. If you want a late forest visit on one of those dates, ask the organiser directly.

Is the Goslar Christmas market open after Christmas?

Yes. The city-centre market is announced through 30 December 2026. It opens 12:00-19:00 on 25 and 26 December and 11:00-18:00 on 30 December. Rammelsberg's Christmas weekend and the Goslarsche Höfe sale will already be over by then, so a post-Christmas visit has a different programme.

When is the Rammelsberg Christmas market 2026?

It takes place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2026, from 11:00 to 18:00 each day. Entry is through two admission windows, 11:00-14:00 and 14:00-18:00. If you enter in the first window you may stay until closing. Tickets are described as non-cancellable, and combination tickets may sell out first.

Is the Goslar Christmas market open on Sundays?

The city-centre market is announced as normally open daily from 11:00 to 20:00 during the season, which includes Sundays. The Goslarsche Höfe decoration sale lists no Sunday opening. The Tin Figure Museum is open on Sundays, but there is no tin-figure casting on Sundays or public holidays.
