The central Hennef Christmas market runs on Marktplatz from 27 to 29 November 2026. Here are all the winter dates, what the opening time really means and which day suits you.
The central Hennef Christmas market on Marktplatz is announced for 27 to 29 November 2026, the first weekend of Advent. The city lists an opening ceremony on Friday at 18:00, but full daily trading hours were not published at the time of our research. Central Christmas market, Marktplatz: 27 to 29 November 2026. Friday 18:00 is the opening ceremony.
General goods market, Frankfurter Straße: Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November, on the section between Lindenstraße and Bahnhofstraße.
Sunday shopping in the centre: 29 November, 13:00 to 18:00. Individual shops decide whether they take part.
St Nicholas: announced for Sunday 29 November at 18:00.
Hüttenzauber, Stadtsoldatenplatz: 23 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Daily hours and holiday exceptions still need checking.
Why the opening time needs a second look
The 18:00 slot on Friday is a programme item. It tells you when the official ceremony begins, not when every stall starts trading. If you want to visit earlier on Friday, or plan a Saturday morning at the market, look for the organiser's daily information on the city's event page before you leave. The same care applies to Hüttenzauber. A run of about six weeks sounds generous, but the date range does not confirm that the huts open every day, nor how many will be open on a given evening. Use the correct square when you navigate: Marktplatz for the central market, Stadtsoldatenplatz for Hüttenzauber.
A short season changes how you plan
Unlike a big-city market that runs for several weeks, the central market in Hennef lasts one weekend. Postponing by seven days is not an equivalent option, because by the second weekend of Advent the stalls on Marktplatz have gone. If the central market is your main reason to come, put 27 to 29 November into your plan first and build the journey and any overnight stay around it.
If your dates fall later in December, Hüttenzauber is the event to check. A town visit on a December weekend can still work well, as long as the offering on Stadtsoldatenplatz is confirmed for your day.
Which day suits you
Friday 27 November: for the opening ceremony and a calm first evening. The goods market on Frankfurter Straße does not run on Friday.
Saturday 28 November: market plus browsing on Frankfurter Straße. The city announces free parking in the centre that day, with the usual conditions on signs still applying.
Sunday 29 November: market, goods market, the shopping window from 13:00 and St Nicholas at 18:00.
Late November weekdays: check Hüttenzauber. The Friday opening of the central market does not mean it also runs on the weekdays before.
Smaller markets and older announcements
Read the year on any detailed announcement you find. During research, the Lindenhof announcement we came across concerned 2025, and no reliable 2026 confirmation was found for the Katharinenmarkt in Stadt Blankenberg. A page still showing last year's dates is not a promise for this year.
Stadt Blankenberg is still worth a daylight visit for its gates, half-timbered houses and castle. The castle is listed as open from 10:00 to 16:00 between November and January, closed on Mondays and from Christmas through 1 January. Just go for the history rather than in the expectation of Christmas stalls.
