Yes, you can visit the Braunschweig Christmas market after Christmas. The central market is closed on 24 and 25 December, then reopens on 26 December. It opens at 11:00 on 26 and 27 December and at 10:00 on 28 and 29 December, and closes at 20:00 on the final day. All 2026 dates are on our page about the Braunschweig Christmas market 2026.
On most days the market closes at 21:00. The earlier close on 29 December matters if you plan an evening visit or a late train on the last day.
These days are a travel option of their own, not simply an extension of the Advent programme. Several things end before Christmas:
The smaller markets at Gut Steinhof, Frankfurter Platz and Nexus, and the Wintermanege performances from 19 to 22 December, all fall before Christmas as well. The appeal now lies in the central market itself and in a quiet winter visit to the city.
If you want to combine the market with a museum, check the weekday. The old town hall museum and Haus am Löwenwall are closed on 24 and 25 December and 1 January, and regularly on Mondays. Monday 28 December therefore does not fit their schedule. Tuesday 29 December could fit the regular calendar of Tuesday to Sunday, but check the current holiday notice before travelling. Restaurants and shops also follow their own hours over the holidays.
The guide does not promise any children's activities after 23 December. If you visit with children, plan a general market visit: a short circuit, a hot drink without alcohol and a meal, then head home before anyone gets too cold.
The cathedral lists services on both days, but the market is closed. Plan meals and other activities independently, and do not assume that museums or restaurants are open just because the church programme is.
The days after Christmas can be a calm time to look for something for yourself or for a late present. Take your time on the first circuit and come back for the piece you liked. Ask about materials, care and packaging, and keep the receipt with the seller's name. If you want to decide the next day, check whether the stall will still be there, as the season ends on 29 December.
Yes. It reopens on 26 December from 11:00 after the closure on 24 and 25 December.
The last day is 29 December 2026, with opening from 10:00 to 20:00.
Not in the two municipal museum buildings. Both close on Mondays, and 28 December 2026 is a Monday. Tuesday could work after checking the holiday notice.
The Braunschweig Christmas Markets 2026 guide has a full route for 26 to 29 December, together with the museum hours and a budget page.
