A Christmas market weekend in Chicago: arrival, where to stay and a two-day plan
For a weekend in Chicago, let the dates decide the plan. On 5 and 6 December you can pair One of a Kind with the North Side; on 19 and 20 December, Renegade Craft in Bridgeport with the Loop. CTA trains link both airports with the city.

How do I plan a Christmas market weekend in Chicago?
Choose your weekend around the fair you want to see, then give each part of the city its own day. On 5 and 6 December, spend one day at One of a Kind at THE MART and the other in Andersonville and Wrigleyville. On 19 and 20 December, pair Renegade Craft in Bridgeport with Daley Plaza and the Cultural Center in the Loop. Arrive by CTA: the Blue Line serves O'Hare and the Orange Line serves Midway. Stay near the destinations you will visit most.
- O'Hare to Downtown
- Blue Line, about 40–45 min
- Midway to Downtown
- Orange Line, about 20–25 min
- CTA day pass
- US$5 for 24 hours
- Best weekends
- 5–6 Dec or 19–20 Dec
How do I get to the Chicago Christmas markets from the airport?
O'Hare and Midway are on different CTA lines. Check the airport code on your booking before you fly.
From O'Hare on the Blue Line
About 40–45 minutes to Downtown in normal service, and trains run around the clock. Pedestrian tunnels link Terminals 1, 2 and 3 with the station. From Terminal 5, take the Airport Transit System to Terminal 2 and follow the signs for CTA trains. Regular entry at O'Hare costs US$5, unless you hold a valid unlimited pass.
From Midway on the Orange Line
CTA gives a typical journey of 20–25 minutes to Downtown. The accessible station is east of the terminal and reached by an enclosed walkway. The line does not run all night; CTA names the N62 bus as the overnight alternative. Add baggage collection, waiting time and the final walk to your hotel.
Fares and passes
With Ventra or contactless payment a rail ride costs US$2.50 and a bus ride US$2.25, with up to two transfers within two hours. A day pass is US$5 for 24 hours and a three-day pass US$15, both valid on CTA and Pace but not automatically on Metra. Note that the elevated State/Lake station is closed for reconstruction.
Where should I stay for the Chicago Christmas markets?
Pick the location around your journeys, not around neighbourhood names. The guide gives search pointers, not hotel recommendations.
For Daley Plaza and central culture
If Daley Plaza, the Cultural Center and One of a Kind are your priorities, start your search close to those destinations. Compare the walk to entrances and transport stops. Remember that Daley Plaza closes on 24 December, so a Loop base suits an Advent visit better than the days after Christmas.
For repeated Wrigleyville visits
If you plan to return to Wrigleyville several times, or you are visiting between Christmas and New Year's Eve, a suitable North Side location can save journeys. Addison on the Red Line is the useful station. A single trip to Bridgeport does not mean you need to stay there.
Compare four journeys
Check arrival point to hotel, hotel to main destination, the return after your visit, and hotel to departure point. Then compare the total price for your dates, including displayed fees. Breakfast, cancellation, parking and luggage storage are separate services, and access needs should be confirmed for the room category you book.
Two-day plan for 5 and 6 December

Frequently asked questions
Which weekend is best for the Chicago Christmas markets in 2026?
It depends on what you want to see. The weekend of 5 and 6 December includes One of a Kind at THE MART, while 19 and 20 December includes Renegade Craft in Bridgeport. Both Christkindlmarket locations are open on both weekends. For a visit after Christmas, only Wrigleyville remains open, until 31 December.
How do I get from O'Hare to the Chicago Christmas market?
Take the CTA Blue Line from O'Hare towards Downtown, a ride of about 40–45 minutes in normal service. From Terminal 5, use the Airport Transit System to Terminal 2 first. For Daley Plaza, check a nearby station on your line; note that the elevated State/Lake station is closed, with Clark/Lake and Washington/Wabash as alternatives.
Do I need a car for a Christmas market weekend in Chicago?
The guide plans the trip by public transport. CTA trains connect both airports with the city, Addison on the Red Line serves Wrigleyville and Merchandise Mart station connects with One of a Kind. A parking lot is mentioned at the Renegade venue in Bridgeport, but free parking is not confirmed there.
Is a CTA day pass worth it for a market weekend?
A day pass costs US$5 and covers 24 hours from first use on CTA and Pace. A single rail ride with Ventra or contactless costs US$2.50, so it pays off once you make more than two separate rail journeys in a day (transfers within two hours are free). The three-day pass costs US$15. Neither pass automatically includes Metra.
