Amiens Christmas market in the rain: what to do on a wet day
On a rainy day in Amiens, make one cultural venue your main stop and add a short walk among the chalets. The Musée de Picardie and Maison de Jules Verne are the guide’s indoor options, but they close on different weekdays.

What can you do in Amiens when it rains at Christmas?
Choose a venue that is actually open that day, then plan a short market section around it. The Musée de Picardie is normally closed on Mondays and opens at 09:30 Tuesday to Friday and 11:00 at weekends. Maison de Jules Verne closes on Tuesdays and for lunch from 12:30 to 14:00. Both list standard admission of nine euros at the research date and are closed on 25 December. The cathedral interior is another option by day. A hot drink at a stall does not guarantee a seat, so look for a café with indoor seating if you need to warm up.
- Musée de Picardie
- Closed Mondays, €9
- Maison de Jules Verne
- Closed Tuesdays, lunch 12:30–14:00
- Towers
- Can close in bad weather

- Market and both venues closed
Where to go indoors in Amiens on a rainy Advent day
Both cultural venues in the guide deserve more than a quick escape from the rain. Pick one per half-day according to your interests and the day of the week.
Musée de Picardie
On rue Puvis de Chavannes, with archaeology, sculpture, decorative arts and painting. It normally opens at 09:30 Tuesday to Friday and at 11:00 at weekends; Monday is the regular closing day. Standard admission is nine euros at the research date. Ask at reception which areas are accessible and choose one collection to focus on.
Maison de Jules Verne
On rue Charles Dubois, focused on the writer and his surroundings. It normally closes on Tuesdays and for lunch from 12:30 to 14:00, so arriving just before the break is awkward. Bulky items and pushchairs are not allowed and busy periods may mean waiting. Standard admission is nine euros at the research date.
The cathedral interior
Free access to the church interior is separate from the tower and treasury visits. Visit well before evening, follow the notices and stay discreet during services. The treasury has a winter visit at 11:00, except Tuesdays and Sundays, for five euros. The towers, with 302 steps, can be closed by weather.
How do you adapt a market day in Amiens to bad weather?
Changing the focus works better than following a long outdoor route unchanged. Decide again in the morning, after checking the weather and current notices.
One venue and a few stalls
A chosen cultural venue and a few stalls already make a complete outing. Start the market section from wherever you actually are rather than walking the whole route. The guide suggests treating the full two kilometres of market paths as optional on a wet day.
Find a real seat
A covered entrance is not a rest area and a drink at a chalet does not come with a chair. If you want to warm up properly, look specifically for an open café or restaurant with indoor seating. Ficelle picarde, a baked crêpe with ham and mushrooms, is a regional option for a seated break.
What to drop first
Weather can close the cathedral towers, and a Hortillonnages boat trip is not a confirmed December activity in any case. A daylight walk in Saint-Leu is a shorter alternative if the paths are comfortable; in heavy rain the guide suggests shortening it or leaving it out.

Frequently asked questions
What if it rains at the Amiens Christmas market?
Shorten the outdoor part and make an indoor venue your main stop. The Musée de Picardie and Maison de Jules Verne are the guide’s options, with different closing days: Monday for the museum and Tuesday for the writer’s house. Then add a short walk through one section of the chalets when the rain eases.
Is the Amiens Christmas market covered?
The guide describes red chalets along market paths through the city centre, not an indoor market. A covered entrance or stall counter is no promised rest area, and buying a hot drink at a chalet does not guarantee a seat. For a longer break, look for an open café or restaurant with indoor seating.
Can I climb the cathedral towers in bad weather?
Weather may restrict the tower visits. Winter departures are published at 14:00, 15:00 and 16:00 from October to March, except Tuesdays and during religious ceremonies. The climb has 302 steps and costs seven euros at the research date. If it is cancelled at short notice, a daylight look at the façade and interior remains possible.
What can I do in Amiens on a rainy Monday?
The Musée de Picardie is normally closed on Mondays, so Maison de Jules Verne is the guide’s cultural option, from 14:00 after its lunch closure. The cathedral treasury visit at 11:00 also runs on Mondays in winter. Check holiday exceptions before you go.
