Most visitors arrive at Strasbourg Gare Centrale and explore the market areas on foot. For buses and trams, CTS sells a single journey for €1.90, 24H SOLO for €4.60 and 24H TRIO for €10.20, each plus €0.20 for a first contactless ticket. The Strasbourg Christmas Markets 2026 travel guide (PDF) explains which ticket suits which day.

Your day starts at the station

Choose your first destination before you arrive. If you are staying overnight, your accommodation may be a better first stop than a market: you can leave your luggage and walk on with your hands free. Ask the property whether you can drop bags before check-in rather than assuming it.

The city lists information points at the station and on Place Kléber. Ask for the current market map and any changes for your visit. Save the exact square of your first market. Place Broglie, Place Grimmeissen and Square Louise Weiss are different destinations, and a search for 'Strasbourg Christmas market' may not take you to the right place.

Which CTS ticket do you need?

Count your journeys first, then choose a ticket. If you arrive in the morning, walk around the centre and leave in the evening, you may not need a day ticket at all.

  • Aller Simple: one person, one hour with transfers, no return. €1.90 on the listed ticket media or in the CTS app. A first Billet Sans Contact adds €0.20, and buying a ticket on the bus costs €2.50.
  • 24H SOLO: €4.60, plus €0.20 for a first contactless ticket. Unlimited journeys in the specified network for 24 hours from first validation.
  • 24H TRIO: €10.20 for up to three people travelling together, plus €0.20 for a first contactless ticket.

For two people, two SOLO tickets have a lower combined base price of €9.20 than TRIO. For three full-fare passengers who stay together, TRIO can make sense.

Where the tickets are valid

The products described cover buses, trams and designated coach services within the Eurométropole, plus tram D to Kehl. Conditions for TER trains vary by product and purchase method, and the guide notes that an icon on an overview page is not enough to establish validity. Check how to buy and validate your ticket before you board.

Plan the return before you shop

Use the current CTS journey planner and check the date, time and the stop that is actually served. Before your first purchase, note your train departure, the way back to the station and a buffer for crowds. Normal journey times are not a guarantee during the Christmas season.

The final departure on a timetable may not be the last connection that works with all your transfers. Save a specific journey and an earlier alternative. If you are travelling without mobile data, keep your station, accommodation, first square and return ticket available offline.

A useful phrase or two

Start with Bonjour and thank people with Merci. When asking for directions, show the full name of the square rather than the general term. Pouvez-vous l'écrire ? (Could you write that down?) helps with a platform number or a stop name.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Strasbourg station from the Christmas markets?

The guide does not give a walking time, as journey times vary in the season. It recommends saving your first square and checking the CTS planner if you use a bus or tram.

Is a 24-hour ticket worth it for the Strasbourg Christmas market?

Only if you make several journeys. A single costs €1.90 and 24H SOLO €4.60, so count your trips first. Many visitors walk between the market areas.

Can I use a CTS ticket to Kehl?

The products described in the guide include tram D to Kehl. Check the conditions of your specific ticket before travelling.
