You can visit the Goslar Christmas market by train without difficulty. From Goslar station, plan your route to the old town with a current map. For the Rammelsberg Christmas market on 12 and 13 December, take bus 803 towards Bergbaumuseum from the station forecourt, which is free with a valid event ticket. Our page on a Goslar Christmas market weekend without a car puts this into a two-day plan.

Decide your focus before you travel

The guide's first piece of advice for rail travellers is simple: decide whether your arrival day focuses on the old town or on Rammelsberg. The two need different onward connections, and trying to fit both into a short afternoon rarely works. If your dates match 12 or 13 December and Rammelsberg matters to you, consider an overnight stay and give each setting its own day.

From the station to the old town

The city-centre market occupies Marktplatz and Marktkirchhof, with the Christmas forest on Schuhhof. Use a current map to plan the actual route from the station to your first destination. The guide deliberately does not give a universal walking time, because luggage, weather and individual pace can change the transfer quite a bit. If you arrive with bags, ask your accommodation whether you can store them first.

  • Market hours: normally daily 11:00-20:00, the forest normally until 22:00
  • Admission: free
  • Short days: 24 December 11:00-14:00, 25/26 December 12:00-19:00, 30 December 11:00-18:00

From the station to Rammelsberg

Bus 803 towards Bergbaumuseum leaves from the station forecourt. During the Christmas weekend, the organiser states that a valid event ticket serves as a travel ticket; without one, check the regular VRB fare. Look up the actual connection for your day. The park-and-ride shuttle that runs every 20 minutes is a separate service for drivers and does not tell you how often bus 803 runs.

If you booked the Roeder tunnel walk, your connection must allow you to report to the museum ticket desk 30 minutes before the appointment. Work backwards from that time and allow for train delays and transfers. A fixed walk appointment should never depend on a spontaneous, unconfirmed connection.

Getting back

Plan the return before the evening begins. The Rammelsberg market closes at 18:00, and bus 803 follows its own timetable. In the old town, the forest's late opening can tempt you to stay, so check your last suitable train first and then decide how long to remain on Schuhhof. On public holidays, pay particular attention to the days on which services operate.

  • Save offline: train tickets, event ticket, admission window and any walk appointment
  • Save two options: a suitable return train and a later alternative
  • Check on the day: current timetables, especially around 24 to 26 December

A sample day by train

On a regular weekday, arrive late morning, start at the Tin Figure Museum from 10:00 if your train allows, and have lunch. Browse Marktplatz and Marktkirchhof in the early afternoon, then finish in the Christmas forest as it gets dark. Allow extra time to walk back to the station. The guide's Tuesday-to-Friday route follows this pattern and notes that the museum is closed on Mondays and on 24 and 25 December.
