The organiser describes weekdays, especially mornings and early afternoons, as generally less busy. At Daley Plaza, that means arriving soon after the 11 am opening on a Monday to Thursday. In Wrigleyville, weekday mornings are not an option, because the market opens at 3 pm from Monday to Thursday. All opening times are on our Chicago Christmas market 2026 page.

Weekday mornings at Daley Plaza

Daley Plaza opens at 11 am every day of its season, from 20 November to 24 December. The organiser suggests considering a visit from opening time. That is guidance, not a forecast for a particular day, so still allow for queues and be ready to change the order of your stops.

A morning start also leaves the afternoon free for a museum or a rest at the hotel. Daley Plaza closes at 8 pm from Sunday to Thursday and 9 pm on Friday and Saturday.

Weekday versus weekend in Wrigleyville

  • Monday to Thursday: 3–9 pm. A short window that starts in the afternoon.
  • Friday and Saturday: 11 am–9 pm.
  • Sunday: 11 am–7 pm.
  • 21 to 23 December: 11 am–9 pm, a rare chance for a weekday daytime visit before Christmas.
  • 28 to 30 December: also 11 am–9 pm.

The guide does not give crowd forecasts for Wrigleyville. What it does make clear is that the weekday hours rule out a morning visit for most of the season.

Craft fairs: spread your visit

A regular One of a Kind ticket is valid on all four days, 3 to 6 December. Instead of seeing everything at once, you can take a first look, note stall locations and contacts, and come back with a clearer idea. That does not reserve any item, so ask the maker whether they hold pieces. The fair opens at 10 am each day and closes at 7 pm, or 5 pm on Sunday.

Renegade Craft offers two different paces. The Friday session on 18 December runs only from 5 to 8 pm, and three opening hours do not mean three hours inside once you count the journey. Saturday and Sunday, 11 am–5 pm, give a longer window with time for a break.

How to stay calm on a busy day

  1. Agree on two or three shared priorities before you arrive. Someone looking for a gift moves at a different pace from someone who wants to eat.
  2. Get your bearings first. Walk round once before buying or queueing.
  3. Set a time and place to meet again instead of staying together through every purchase.
  4. Keep entrances, exits and stall fronts clear when you gather as a group.
  5. Change the order if one queue is long. You do not need to see everything in one visit.

If you want to come back, note the stall's name and position. Follow the layout and instructions on site rather than a saved overview from earlier.

Evenings and the end of the day

It gets dark early in December, and an evening visit has its own appeal. Decide on the day's last stop once you know your route back. Even in the centre, construction or a poor connection can make the return longer than expected.

Frequently asked questions
