Triana gives a December trip to Seville a firm base that does not depend on the seasonal programme. Visit the shops at Mercado de Triana on a Tuesday to Saturday morning, before they close at 2:30pm, then walk to Centro Cerámica Triana at Calle Callao 16, open until 8pm. On Sundays the market shops are closed but the ceramics centre opens. The Seville Christmas guide includes this as Route 2.

Mercado de Triana

The market on Plaza del Altozano is a regular food market and adds a view of everyday trading to an Advent trip. Its opening-hours page lists:

  • Shops: Monday to Saturday 9am to 2:30pm, closed on Sundays and public holidays.
  • Food and drink businesses: Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and 6pm to midnight.
  • Sundays and holidays: hospitality 10am to 5pm, shops closed.

The contact page has an older statement that shops stay open until 3pm, next to a COVID reference. The guide follows the dedicated hours page and plans shopping before 2:30pm. Individual businesses may have their own hours, and the market recommends checking the stall you want directly.

Centro Cerámica Triana

Open since 2014 in a historic ceramics production site, the centre explores the history of the craft. Production spaces and kilns are on the ground floor; upstairs, the collection presents ceramics from the 12th to the 20th century alongside temporary exhibitions.

  • Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 8pm, last admission 7pm.
  • Admission: €2.10 general, €1.60 reduced, free for under-16s.
  • Winter dates: 10am to 3pm on 24 and 31 December and 5 January; closed on 25 December and 1 and 6 January.

A Tuesday to Saturday route

  1. Around 10am: start with the food shops at Mercado de Triana.
  2. Later that morning: finish shopping with items suited to transport. Perishable purchases may need a trip back to your accommodation.
  3. Afterwards: continue to Calle Callao 16 for the kilns and the collection.
  4. After the museum: a break at an open food or drink business. Do not confuse its later opening with continued trading at the market shops.

Looking closely at ceramics

The museum helps you look more carefully at pieces for sale later. The guide suggests four questions for any purchase: who made it and where, whether it is decorative or meant for food, heat or water, how to clean it, and how it will be packed for the journey. A shop in Triana does not prove local manufacture for every product.

Sundays and Mondays

On Sunday, the ceramics centre is open but the market shops are closed; plan around culture and a meal. On Monday, the ceramics centre has no regular opening, so the full route does not work.

Where to stay for a Triana focus

If Triana is the centre of your trip, the guide suggests comparing accommodation addresses with Plaza del Altozano and Calle Callao. Allow extra travel time for anything you plan on the other side of the river, such as the nativity market near the cathedral. Perishable purchases from the market may need a trip back to your room before the museum, so a base nearby makes the morning easier.
