The Feria del Belén is Seville's market for nativity figures, buildings, accessories and materials, held on Calle Fray Ceferino González between the cathedral and the Archivo de Indias. Its 2026 dates, 8 November to 23 December, are marked as provisional. The best visit is unhurried: look first, compare a few pieces, then ask about size, material and packing. The Seville Christmas guide has a half-day route for the market.

What you find at the market

The official tourism portal describes figures, buildings, accessories and materials, including both handmade work and mass-produced items. This mix rewards a careful look. Two figures of similar size can differ considerably in how they were made and finished. The guide's advice is to ask about the individual piece rather than judging its origin by appearance. The general description does not list specific workshops or promise daily demonstrations.

How to choose a figure

Before you start, decide whether you want a principal figure, an addition to a scene or a small standalone gift. That way you compare pieces with the same purpose.

  • Compare sizes: note the height of a standing figure in your nativity scene at home. A size label does not always explain which figure is the reference, so show a photograph and ask.
  • Ask about materials: what is it made from, and are any parts attached separately? This matters for weight, transport and display.
  • Look at the finish: face, hands, paintwork and joins. Ask the seller to show you delicate parts rather than lifting them yourself.
  • Establish its origin: who made it, where, and which stages were done by hand.

A higher price can reflect different factors. Ask about material, process and finish rather than judging quality by size alone.

Buildings and accessories

Accessories can change an existing scene without replacing its figures. Start with what is missing: a background, a building or a small detail. Measure the width, depth and height of your display space at home, and take a photograph with these measurements. When adding a building, compare doorway heights with your figures. A single façade may suit a small display better than a large building that hides the figures. For lit pieces, ask how the power supply works.

A half-day route

  1. Getting started: orient yourself along Fray Ceferino González and see which stalls are actually open.
  2. First circuit: compare figures and accessories, remember two or three pieces.
  3. A second look: return to your preferred stall and ask about material, production and packaging.
  4. To finish: a break in the old town. Entry to the cathedral or the Archivo de Indias is not part of a market visit and needs separate planning.

If you travel as a pair, agree on a meeting point at the edge of the area. One person can spend longer with the figures while the other takes a shorter look.

Useful Spanish at the stall

  • ¿Qué altura tiene la figura y de qué material está hecha? How tall is the figure, and what material is it made from?
  • ¿Está hecha aquí o en otro taller? Was it made here or in another workshop?
  • ¿Puede embalarlo para el viaje? Could you pack it for travel?
