For the Quedlinburg Christmas markets, official Advent information lists Festwiese Kleers and the Finanzamt area at An der Walze among the car parks. Both are listed at €10 per vehicle for the day or €7 from 17:00. On courtyard weekends, special vehicle access rules apply in the historic centre, so park outside the event area and walk in. If you would rather leave the car at home, our page on a weekend in Quedlinburg without a car explains the alternative.

Where to park during Advent

The guide's advice is clear: do not drive as close as possible to your destination and hope to find a space. Follow the current event signs and check which parking area is intended for your direction of arrival.

  • Festwiese Kleers: listed as a car park for the Advent events.
  • Finanzamt area, An der Walze: also listed for cars.
  • Marschlinger Hof: reserved for pre-booked coaches under the event arrangements.
  • Other areas: may only admit cars when directed by staff.

A car park name on a map is therefore not a promise that you can use it during your visit. General parking advice from another season may not apply while the event is running.

Published charges

Kleers and Finanzamt are listed at €10 per vehicle for the whole day or €7 from 17:00. The later rate can suit an evening visit to Marktplatz, which is open until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and until 20:00 on other days. Follow the current signs and conditions on site. The prices do not include a reservation and do not guarantee a free space.

In the guide's example budget, a personal allowance of €72 plus €10 day parking adds up to €82 for one person travelling alone. Travel and accommodation come on top.

Vehicle restrictions in the Old Town

On the courtyard weekends, 28–29 November, 5–6 December and 12–13 December, access to the historic centre is restricted. The official traffic information explains the details for each date. Check it shortly before you travel, because arrangements can change.

Arriving at a hotel in the centre

If you are staying in the centre, agree arrival and luggage arrangements with your host before you set off. Ask about permitted access, possible time windows and the route from the actual parking area to your accommodation. A room booking does not automatically exempt you from event restrictions. Departing on a Sunday may also need special arrangements.

Parking in Gernrode and Bad Suderode

The smaller markets outside the centre follow their own arrangements. If you drive to the Grubenlichtermarkt in Bad Suderode on 28 November, use the designated parking there. Do not assume that the Quedlinburg town-centre arrangements also apply in Bad Suderode. For Advent im Stiftshof in Gernrode, 11–13 December, check current arrival information for that weekend.

Driving or the train?

The organiser recommends public transport for the Advent events and points visitors to the INSA journey planner. If you only plan an afternoon and evening in the centre, the train can save you the search for a space and the walk from an outlying car park. A car can make more sense if you want to combine Quedlinburg with Gernrode or Bad Suderode on a day when connections are thin. Compare both options for your exact date, including the walking time from the car park or the station to the markets.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive directly into the Old Town?

Not on the event weekends. Vehicle restrictions apply during the events. Use current arrival information and, if staying overnight, agree access with your host.

Is parking cheaper in the evening?

Yes, at the listed car parks. Kleers and Finanzamt are listed at €7 from 17:00 instead of €10 for the day.

Can coaches park in the centre?

Marschlinger Hof is reserved for pre-booked coaches under the Advent arrangements. Coach operators should check the official information.
