Zaragoza Christmas market in the rain: indoor options and a plan B
On a wet or cold day in Zaragoza, keep the market visit short and plan one open indoor destination close by. The Museo del Foro, La Seo, the Basílica del Pilar and Mercado Central all have published hours, but each has its own closing days and midday breaks.

What can you do at the Zaragoza Christmas market when it rains?
Shorten the outdoor part and plan around an indoor visit near Plaza del Pilar. The Museo del Foro opens Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00, and Sunday and holidays 10:00-14:30, with admission at €4. La Seo and the Basílica del Pilar are close by, with their own hours and services. For food, Mercado Central opens Monday to Saturday. The craft fair on 4-8 December is indoors at the Cámara de Comercio but closes between 14:00 and 17:00, so it is not a fallback for the whole day.
- Foro museum
- Closed Mondays, €4
- Santa Capilla
- Daily 08:00-20:30
- Craft fair break
- Closed 14:00-17:00
- Aljafería
- Winter Mon-Sat 10:00-18:00
Where can you go indoors near Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza?
Three indoor visits sit close to the main market square. Check each one for your day of the week.
Museo del Foro
Roman city life, explored indoors. Published hours are Tuesday to Saturday 10:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00, and Sunday and holidays 10:00-14:30. It is closed on Mondays, on 25 December and on 1 and 6 January. General admission is €4, reduced €3. Admission ends half an hour before closing.
La Seo
The second cathedral, with published hours Monday to Saturday 10:00-14:30 and 16:00-20:00, and Sunday 10:00-12:00 and 16:00-20:00. Last admission is 45 minutes before each closing time, and services can change access. Check which areas your ticket actually covers. If you plan to go after the market, knowing only the closing time is not enough.
Basílica del Pilar
The Santa Capilla is listed as open daily from 08:00 to 20:30. The tower is a separate visit: Monday to Thursday 10:30-14:30 and 16:00-20:00, Friday to Sunday 10:00-20:00, last ascent half an hour before closing. Respect services and follow instructions on site.
Which covered places in Zaragoza need a separate journey?
These are good indoor choices, but not spontaneous substitutes next to the market. Plan the trip there as its own stage.
Aljafería
On Calle de los Diputados, with Islamic arcades and a carved wooden ceiling in the throne room. Winter hours are normally Monday to Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-14:00; closed on 25 December and 1 January. Ticket sales end 45 minutes before closing. General admission is €7, and individual visitors need no reservation.
Mercado Central
The market hall on Avenida de César Augusto opens Monday to Friday 09:00-14:00 and 17:30-20:00, and Saturday 09:00-14:30. Individual stalls may keep different hours, so an open hall does not mean every food outlet is serving. Visit in the morning to look at products and ask about storage before buying food to take home.
Craft fair and CADA
The craft fair (4-8 December, 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-21:00) takes place inside the Cámara de Comercio. Outside those dates, the CADA shop at the Centro de Artesanía opens Monday to Wednesday 17:00-20:00, and Thursday and Friday 12:00-14:00 and 17:00-20:00. CADA is a shop, not another Christmas market, and no weekend hours are published.
A rainy Advent day in Zaragoza
A sample plan for a Tuesday to Saturday, when the Foro museum keeps both opening sessions.
-
Morning
Mercado Central
Browse the market hall on Avenida de César Augusto and ask about storage if you buy food to take home.
-
11:00
Museo del Foro
Spend an hour or so on Roman city life. Choose one theme, such as trade, to keep the visit focused.
-
13:00
A warm lunch break
Pick a place to eat in the old town before going outdoors again. The museum's midday closure does not need another attraction.
-
16:00
La Seo or El Pilar
Visit one church interior during visitor hours. The Pilar tower is optional and needs extra time.
-
Early evening
A short look at the square
If the market on Plaza del Pilar is confirmed open, walk past a few chosen stalls, then head back in good time.

- Holiday closures on 25 December and 1 and 6 January
- Meal-break ideas at Mercado Central
Frequently asked questions
What if it rains at the Zaragoza Christmas market?
Keep the outdoor part short and plan an indoor visit near Plaza del Pilar, such as the Museo del Foro, La Seo or the Basílica del Pilar. Check the forecast shortly before you travel and again that morning. One focused visit with a warm break usually works better than several hurried changes of location.
Is the Zaragoza craft fair indoors?
The 2026 craft fair takes place at the Cámara de Comercio, Paseo Isabel la Católica 2, from 4 to 8 December. It opens from 11:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 21:00. Between 14:00 and 17:00 it is closed, so plan a separate place to eat or wait during that gap.
Is the Museo del Foro open on Mondays?
No. Published regular hours show the Museo del Foro closed on Mondays. On Sundays and public holidays it opens only from 10:00 to 14:30. It is also closed on 25 December and on 1 and 6 January. Admission ends half an hour before closing.
Can I go to the Aljafería on a rainy afternoon?
Yes, if you allow enough time. Winter hours are normally Monday to Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 10:00-14:00. Ticket sales end 45 minutes before closing and admission 30 minutes before. There are security checks, and the palace is a separate journey from Plaza del Pilar.
