THE EIGHT AREAS

Which Christmas markets are there in Strasbourg in 2026?

The city's Christmas website lists eight market areas. Each has its own focus, so it helps to save the exact square name rather than searching for 'Strasbourg Christmas market'.

HISTORY

Broglie and Kléber

Place Broglie holds the Chrìstkìndelsmärik, whose origins the city traces to 1570; it moved to this square in 1871. Place Kléber combines the large Christmas tree with the Village du Partage, where associations present their work. The Village du Partage belongs to the Kléber area and is not counted as a ninth market.

OLD TOWN

Cathedral, Château and Carré d'Or

The stalls around the cathedral belong to an area that also includes Place du Château and parts of Rue des Hallebardes and Rue Gutenberg. The Carré d'Or market is on Place du Temple Neuf, with a craft focus and surrounding shops; Rue des Orfèvres links it with the cathedral area.

FOOD AND WATER

Petite France, Louise Weiss, Quai des Délices

Petite France covers two squares, Benjamin Zix and Saint-Thomas. Regional producers are in Square Louise Weiss according to the current Christmas page. The Quai des Délices on Terrasse Rohan and Place du Marché-aux-Poissons focuses on baking and winemaking, with Bredle biscuits, a temporary bakery and regional wines.

A SEPARATE CALENDAR

When is Marché OFF open in Strasbourg?

Marché OFF on Place Grimmeissen focuses on the social and solidarity economy and has its own organiser's announcement.

DATES

25 November to 24 December

Co-organiser CRESS Grand Est gives daily hours of 11:00 to 20:00. The body of the announcement contains a conflicting end date, and there is no separate rule for Christmas Eve. Confirm arrangements before planning a late visit on 24 December.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Second-hand finds and new work

The city describes second-hand books and toys, reworked clothing, furniture and craft objects. Shipping containers and geodesic domes form part of the setting. Treat these categories as a guide for your questions rather than a promise of a particular selection on your date.

PLANNING

Two days before the main markets

A visit to OFF on 25 or 26 November does not mean Broglie, Kléber and the other main markets are open yet. The guide's route combining OFF and Kléber works only on a confirmed main-market day, and OFF closes an hour earlier than the main markets.

MUSEUMS AND MONDAYS

Which museums near the Strasbourg Christmas markets are open?

Cultural venues follow their own calendar. The guide uses two of them as planned additions to a market visit.

FREE ENTRY

5e Lieu, Place du Château

The exhibition Un voyage à Strasbourg explores architecture and urban development. Normal hours are Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 to 18:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 17:00. Admission to the exhibitions is free; guided visits and workshops may have a charge. It closes on Mondays and on 25 and 26 December, and at 16:00 on 24 December.

€9 STANDARD

Historical Museum

At 2 rue du Vieux-Marché-aux-Poissons, open Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, and 10:00 to 18:00 at weekends. Last ticket sales are at 17:30. Admission is €9, reduced €5, free for under-18s. Closed on Mondays and on 25 December.

NOT AN OPTION

Musée Alsacien

The guide does not use the Musée Alsacien as an alternative because it is closed for renovation, and official sources give differing reopening years. A Monday market visit cannot be combined with the 5e Lieu or the Historical Museum, so plan a shorter day or a break at your accommodation.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What are the opening hours of the Strasbourg Christmas market 2026?

The city gives regular hours of 11:00 to 21:00 from 28 November. On the opening day, Friday 27 November, the markets run from 14:00 to 21:00, and on 24 December they close at 18:00. Marché OFF lists 11:00 to 20:00 every day. Hours can change at short notice, so check the official FAQ before you travel.

Is the Strasbourg Christmas market open after Christmas?

No. The city's current FAQ states that no market stalls remain open from 25 December onwards. Illuminations and sightseeing are different from open stalls, so do not plan a normal market circuit after 24 December unless new official confirmation appears.

Is the Strasbourg Christmas market open on Mondays?

The city's regular hours of 11:00 to 21:00 apply through the season, and the guide plans Monday as a market day with a different rhythm. The 5e Lieu and the Historical Museum are both closed on Mondays, though, so a Monday visit works best as a shorter market day without a museum stop.

Where is the main Christmas market in Strasbourg?

The historic Chrìstkìndelsmärik is on Place Broglie. Place Kléber, with the large Christmas tree and the Village du Partage, is nearby. Route 1 in the guide links the two via Rue de la Mésange. Information points at the station and on Place Kléber hand out the current market map.

Is there a cup deposit at the Strasbourg Christmas market?

Yes. The city's FAQ lists a €1 cup deposit. Cups can be returned at a drinks stall, and you can donate the deposit instead. Check the return arrangements when you buy your drink. A refunded deposit is not a final expense, but a kept cup or a donated deposit stays part of your spending, which is worth knowing if you keep a strict budget.
