Hennef Christmas market 2026: dates, places and opening times
The central Hennef Christmas market takes place on Marktplatz from 27 to 29 November 2026, the first weekend of Advent. Hüttenzauber on Stadtsoldatenplatz has a longer run, from 23 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Here is what each event offers and what still needs checking.
When is the Hennef Christmas market in 2026?
The city announces the central Christmas market on Marktplatz for 27 to 29 November 2026, with an opening ceremony on Friday at 18:00. On Saturday and Sunday, a general goods market extends along Frankfurter Straße between Lindenstraße and Bahnhofstraße. Sunday shopping runs from 13:00 to 18:00 and St Nicholas is announced for 18:00. Hüttenzauber on Stadtsoldatenplatz is advertised separately from 23 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. Full daily trading hours were not published at the time of research, so check the city's event page before you travel.

Where are the Christmas markets in Hennef?
The winter events in the centre sit close together, but each has its own square and its own calendar. Save the right place name before you set off.
The central Christmas market
Marktplatz is the focal point of the first Advent weekend, from 27 to 29 November 2026. Start with a circuit to see what is there before buying anything. The market is short, so postponing by a week is not an equivalent option. Look at the current daily programme on the city's page before leaving home.
The weekend goods market
On Saturday and Sunday, a general goods market extends along Frankfurter Straße between Lindenstraße and Bahnhofstraße. A Krammarkt sells various goods and is not necessarily devoted to crafts. It gives you a second part to the day: Christmas market first and street stalls afterwards, or the other way round.
Hüttenzauber
Hüttenzauber on Stadtsoldatenplatz is advertised from 23 November 2026 to 6 January 2027. It is useful if your dates fall outside the first Advent weekend. The long run does not confirm daily opening, holiday arrangements or how many huts will be open, so check your specific date first.
Which day should you visit the Hennef Christmas market?
The right date matters more in Hennef than in a city with a weeks-long market. Choose the event first, then check its daily opening.
Opening evening, 27 November
The city announces the opening ceremony for 18:00. A train arriving just before that leaves little room for orientation, so build in a margin. The goods market on Frankfurter Straße does not run on Friday. Keep the evening simple: market, a meal and a relaxed journey back.
Square and street, 28 November
Saturday suits visitors who want to combine the market with browsing on Frankfurter Straße. The city announces free parking in the centre for this day, but private car parks, time limits and temporary traffic arrangements may still apply. Book a seated break if it matters to your group.
Shopping and St Nicholas, 29 November
Sunday brings the market, the goods market and a shopping window from 13:00 to 18:00. St Nicholas is announced for 18:00. With children, make that the end of a manageable afternoon rather than a reason to stay outside all day. Not every shop has to join the Sunday opening.
What else is there around Hennef in Advent?
Two places belong to Hennef but need their own travel plan. Neither is a confirmed Christmas market in 2026.
Stadt Blankenberg
Stadt Blankenberg stands above the Sieg with gates, half-timbered houses and a castle. The castle is listed as open 10:00 to 16:00 from November to January, closed on Mondays and from Christmas through 1 January. The city gives about 20 minutes on foot uphill from the S-Bahn stop. No 2026 Katharinenmarkt was confirmed.
The Kurpark
The Kurpark on Kurhausstraße recalls Hennef's spa-town history. In winter, its appeal is a quiet daylight walk. Naturregion Sieg describes the paths as accessibly reached, but rain, leaves or frost can change conditions. Seasonal facilities such as mini-golf are not confirmed to open in winter.
The Lauschtour
Stadt Blankenberg has a smartphone audio walk with twelve listening points, about two kilometres and roughly one hour. Download the app and content before arriving if possible and bring headphones. A further listening point in Bödingen lies outside the village circuit and is not part of the same short walk.

The central market on Marktplatz finishes on 29 November. On December weekends, the realistic option in the centre is Hüttenzauber on Stadtsoldatenplatz, as long as its opening is confirmed for your date. The goods market and the St Nicholas visit belong to the November weekend and do not carry over.
Is there a Christmas market in Stadt Blankenberg in 2026?
Our research found no reliable 2026 confirmation of the Katharinenmarkt in Stadt Blankenberg. Older reports mention a Katharinenkirmes and a medieval market, but they do not establish a 2026 edition. The historic village is still a good daylight excursion for its castle, gates and audio walk.
When is St Nicholas at the Hennef Christmas market?
The city announces St Nicholas for Sunday 29 November 2026 at 18:00. If that is too late for your children, an earlier market visit with a shared break is a complete outing too. Check the programme shortly before travelling, as event details can change.
