ADVENT 2026 · GOSLAR · BY TRAIN AND BUS
A Goslar Christmas market weekend without a car: arrival, stay and a two-day plan
Goslar works well as a car-free Advent weekend. Spend one day in the old town and, if you come on 12 or 13 December, the other at Rammelsberg, which bus 803 reaches from the station forecourt.

Can you visit the Goslar Christmas markets by train without a car?
Yes. Arrive at Goslar station and use a current map for your route to the old town, where the market on Marktplatz, Marktkirchhof and Schuhhof is free to visit. For the Rammelsberg Christmas market on 12 and 13 December, take bus 803 towards Bergbaumuseum from the station forecourt. The organiser states that a valid event ticket serves as your bus ticket; otherwise the regular VRB fare applies. Car parking at the museum is not available that weekend anyway, so the bus is the natural choice. Save your return train and an alternative before the evening.

How do you get to the Goslar Christmas market by train?
Decide first whether your arrival day is for the old town or for Rammelsberg. The two need different connections.
From the station to the market
Plan the actual route from the station to your first destination with a current map. The guide deliberately gives no universal walking time, because luggage, weather and your own pace can change the transfer. If you arrive with bags, check whether your accommodation can store them first.
From the station to Rammelsberg
Bus 803 towards Bergbaumuseum leaves from the station forecourt. During the Christmas weekend a valid event ticket serves as a travel ticket. Look up the actual connection for your day, as the park-and-ride shuttle's 20-minute frequency does not apply to this scheduled bus.
Work back from your appointment
If you booked the Roeder tunnel walk, report to the museum ticket desk 30 minutes beforehand. Count back from that time, allow for train delays and the walk from the stop, and save a later alternative. On public holidays, check which days services operate.
Where should you stay for a Goslar Advent weekend?
The guide does not recommend individual properties. It gives you the questions that make a car-free stay work.
Check the real route
For several circuits through the old town, the walk between accommodation and market matters more than the word central. Check slopes, steps and the entrance on a current map, and ask about luggage access if needed. A short distance on a map does not guarantee a quiet night.
Think about the bus stop
If Rammelsberg is your priority, staying nearby does not override the event weekend's vehicle restrictions. What matters without a car is the stop, the operating day and the connection to and from the station. Bus 803 leaves from the station forecourt, so an easy route to the station is often the most useful feature of a room.
Ask before you book
Ask about late check-in, breakfast hours and luggage storage before check-in or after check-out. These details decide whether a museum or market visit stays relaxed on departure day. Compare prices on equivalent services and cancellation terms; Advent availability is not guaranteed.
When should you leave the Goslar Christmas market to catch your train?
Opening hours alone do not set the length of your evening. Your last suitable connection does.
Plan the forest around the train
The Christmas forest is normally open until 22:00. Check your last suitable connection first, then decide how long to stay on Schuhhof. On 24, 25, 26 and 30 December, earlier market hours apply and the forest's late opening is not confirmed.
After the event
The Rammelsberg market closes at 18:00. Bus 803 follows its own timetable, so look up a return to the station in advance. The final park-and-ride bus at 19:00 runs to Baßgeige, not to the station, so it is only useful for drivers.
Leave room on departure day
Choose your train home around your ticket, actual services and a buffer for reaching the station. Drop an optional activity first rather than squeezing a fixed appointment against your train. If you have luggage, confirm storage with your accommodation, as an unconfirmed luggage drop should not be what makes a connection possible.

Frequently asked questions
Is the bus to Rammelsberg free during the Christmas market?
According to the organiser, travel on bus 803 is free with a valid event ticket for the Rammelsberg Christmas market. Without one, the regular VRB fare applies. Keep your ticket on your phone or printed so you can show it on the bus, and check the timetable for your day.
Can I do the Goslar old town and Rammelsberg in one day without a car?
It is possible, but the guide advises a separate block for Rammelsberg. If you reach Goslar only in the afternoon, do not count on exploring both properly. On 12 or 13 December, visit Rammelsberg in the morning by bus 803 and return to the old town later, with a current connection planned for the transfer.
Which weekend is best for a Goslar Christmas market trip?
If you want Rammelsberg, the only announced Christmas weekend is 12 and 13 December 2026. If decorations matter, the Goslarsche Höfe sale runs until 5 December. For a quieter old-town stay with a museum, any weekend from 25 November works, and the market continues after Christmas until 30 December.
Do I need to book accommodation early for Advent in Goslar?
The guide makes no promise about Advent availability, so booking early is sensible, especially for the Rammelsberg weekend. Before booking, ask about late check-in, breakfast hours and luggage storage, and compare cancellation conditions as well as prices. Rammelsberg tickets are described as non-cancellable, so settle the room first.
