Christmas Village is easy to enjoy with children if you keep the day small: one indoor attraction in the morning, a meal, and a limited market visit with perhaps one ride. Children under 18 enter the heated tent free, but rides, food and Santa photos are separate costs. Check the height rules for the carousel and Ferris wheel before you queue. The Baltimore Christmas markets guide includes a full family Saturday route.

Rides and height rules

The carousel and Ferris wheel add a lot to a family visit, but they are separate decisions in the family budget. The events page specifies adult accompaniment for smaller children. Children under 42 inches, roughly 107 centimetres, need a responsible paying adult on the carousel. On the Ferris wheel the threshold is 54 inches, roughly 137 centimetres.

The ride's own posted conditions remain decisive. Check the current fare, the accompaniment rule and whether the ride is running before you join a queue. Ride prices were not confirmed at the research date, so we have not listed them. Agree as a family whether a ride is a fixed plan or a decision to make after eating. If only part of the group rides, pick a meeting point away from the exit.

Pushchairs, food and Santa photos

  • Pushchairs: they are not permitted equally everywhere. The organiser's FAQ notes that they cannot be taken inside the Käthe Wohlfahrt retail area.
  • Outside food: the organiser prohibits outside food and drink on the market grounds. Ask about exceptions for particular needs before your visit.
  • Santa photos: the organiser links to reservations for family photos with Santa. A walk-in visit does not guarantee your preferred slot.
  • Admission: under-18s enter the tent free. Adults may need a $5 Season Pass on selected weekend days.

With children, one straightforward meal is often easier than a long sequence of snacks. Announced dishes include bratwurst, raclette, schnitzel and Belgian fries, plus vegan-friendly options. Ask at the stall whether a dish is available that day.

Pair the market with one indoor attraction

For families, the bigger decision is the length of the day. A morning indoors and a short market stop is easier than several major attractions. Let each child name one wish and choose from those.

  • Maryland Science Center: interactive exhibits, a planetarium and a demonstration stage. Adults $34.95, children aged three to twelve $26.95. Two adults and one child total $96.85 before extras such as IMAX. Pushchairs are allowed in the main exhibition areas but not the theatres, and Elements Café has a seating area for outside food.
  • National Aquarium: children four and under are free; ages 5 to 20 pay $39.95. Pushchairs are generally not allowed on the usual exhibition route, with exceptions for mobility needs via a tag from stroller check. A Guest Relations Room is set aside for a quiet break.

Rules differ from venue to venue. Permission to eat your own food or bring a pushchair at one place does not carry over to the next.

A family Saturday that leaves room for breaks

  1. 10 am to 12:30 pm: the Science Center. Choose a few stations and take a break before attention fades.
  2. 12:30 to 2 pm: lunch and the short move to the market.
  3. From 2 pm: one chosen stall, a shared snack and perhaps one ride. Plan your return journey before the children tire.

Saturdays 5 and 19 December are possible dates, subject to current opening arrangements. Decide who keeps the tickets and return travel details, and where to meet if someone gets separated. Finishing early often keeps more of the good mood than squeezing in one last thing.
