Two days in Ubud: the palace, Saraswati Temple and Campuhan Ridge on foot, then ARMA, the Monkey Forest and Neka, with times, IDR budgets and a rain plan.

Direkt zum Artikel ↓Two days in Ubud are enough for a calm first visit if you split them by theme: day one on foot around Ubud Palace, Saraswati Temple and the Campuhan Ridge Walk, day two for ARMA Museum, the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and, if you still have the energy, Neka Art Museum. Sleep near the centre and save the rice terraces and highland trips for a third day. The plan below combines two of the ten routes in our Bali day-route guide, with start times, legs and planning budgets in Indonesian rupiah (IDR).
It assumes you are already in Ubud. From the airport we allow roughly 90–180 minutes by road, so the day you land should not count as one of the two.
Planning budget for the day: IDR 350,000–650,000. If the heat builds early, shorten the ridge rather than cutting lunch.
Planning budget: IDR 450,000–850,000. Make the museum that interests you more the main visit and treat the second as a bonus. If the morning runs long, drop Neka and stay in the centre. The transfers look trivial on a map, but Ubud traffic slows them down, so protect the lunch break instead of squeezing in another sight.
With only two days, a room near the centre saves you more time than anything else. A valley villa can be lovely and quiet, but it often means arranging transport for every meal. Before booking, check the exact road, any stairs, the real walk to the places you plan to use and how you would get back after an evening performance. Our guide to Bali's areas compares the trade-offs.
A simple food rhythm works well here: fruit and coffee in the morning, a modest warung lunch and a dinner you chose on purpose rather than one you reached after an hour in traffic. Seniman Coffee near central Ubud fits easily into a walking route, though you should check the menu before counting on it for a full meal. For a planned Indonesian dinner, Hujan Locale is worth considering; reserve directly and check the current menu, dietary options and cancellation terms. At a warung, ask what comes with a mixed rice plate and whether the spice can be adjusted. Babi guling and ayam betutu are quite different dishes, so explain any dietary needs clearly. Make drinking water part of your daily routine.
If a cultural performance at the palace appeals, look up its programme, ticket and access separately. A daytime look around the palace is not the same as a show in the evening, and you need to know how you are getting home afterwards if you sleep outside the centre.
An upland shower can arrive while the coast stays dry, so check the forecast each morning and start exposed walks early. If rain rules out the ridge on day one, swap it for an art museum and a long café break. On day two, keep one museum, skip the car legs and stay central.
With a third day, hire a driver for the area north of Ubud: Tegallalang Rice Terraces, Tirta Empul and Gunung Kawi in Tampaksiring. Start early, agree the hours, stops, waiting time and overtime before you leave, and keep energy for the stairs at Gunung Kawi. Do not bolt it onto one of the two Ubud days; both halves end up rushed.
For the centre, yes. Two days cover the palace, Saraswati Temple, the ridge walk, two museums and the Monkey Forest at a relaxed pace. The terraces and temples north of Ubud need a third day with a driver.
Day one works on foot from a central base. Day two has car legs of 25–50 and 20–40 minutes, so arrange a ride or drop Neka and stay in the centre. Do not make a scooter the default on roads you do not know.
Follow the sanctuary rules, secure loose belongings and never feed or provoke the animals. Give yourself time to walk calmly rather than treating it as a photo stop.
We plan with roughly 90–180 minutes by road after you leave arrivals, plus time for immigration and baggage. If you land late, keep the first evening simple and start the two-day plan the next morning.
Both Ubud routes, with times, legs, budgets and a rain alternative, are in Bali Itineraries – 10 Day Routes + 3, 5 & 7-Day Plans, together with the 3, 5 and 7-day plans that show where a third Ubud day fits. To choose between a central room and a valley villa, read Where to Stay in Bali. The Bali Offline Place Guide keeps the palace, temple, museums and cafés on your phone. Everything else is in Bali Travel Guides.
