The city of Hennef lists S 12, S 19 and RE 9 services for the town. Search for Hennef (Sieg) in your journey planner, then save the walk from the station to Marktplatz or Stadtsoldatenplatz before you travel. Arriving at Hennef (Sieg)
The station name alone does not describe the route to the market. Look up the walk to Marktplatz for the central Christmas market, or to Stadtsoldatenplatz for Hüttenzauber, and save it on your phone. That way you do not have to start navigating in a crowd after getting off the train.
The lines named in our guide give orientation. They are not a promise about every individual daily service. Search from your actual starting point on the day you travel and check for engineering works or short-notice changes, especially for a late return.
Coming from further away: Siegburg/Bonn
International visitors and long-distance travellers often come via the ICE station Siegburg/Bonn. Keep two things apart:
Siegburg/Bonn is an interchange, not the city of Bonn. A connection through it does not mean there is a direct train from Bonn Hauptbahnhof to Hennef.
Check your changes. Examine each connection from your starting point rather than assuming a fixed pattern.
Leave a margin. If you have booked a specific long-distance train, allow a generous connection time in both directions.

The second station: Blankenberg (Sieg)
Stadt Blankenberg is part of Hennef, but its railway stop is outside the historic centre. The city gives about 20 minutes on foot to the village. That is an indication, not a guaranteed time: the climb, your route and winter conditions affect the effort. Treat the uphill walk as part of the excursion, and do not arrive shortly before the castle closes at 16:00.
Save two destinations: BlankenbergBf for the train journey and your precise goal in the historic village for the walk. Do not confuse it with Blankenburg in the Harz or another similarly named place. The transport authority's stop page, linked in our guide, shows current departures.
If the climb does not suit you
The Anruf-Sammeltaxi, or AST, supplements public transport between Hennef's centre and outlying settlements, including Stadt Blankenberg and its S-Bahn stop. It runs at scheduled times and must be booked at least 60 minutes before departure, on 02241 499999 or through the RSVG app and online. Mention luggage, a wheelchair or a pushchair when booking and check the current fare.
Planning the way back
Save a backup: identify a second suitable return connection.
Subtract the walk: with a fixed train, take the walk to the station off your market time rather than adding it afterwards.
Share the job: in a group, agree who keeps an eye on service updates.
Allow for Sunday: after St Nicholas at 18:00 on 29 November, give yourself time for toilets, coats and bags.
