From Barcelona airport, buy the airport metro ticket, which cost €5.90 when the guide was researched, because the T-casual is not valid at Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 on L9 Sud. In town, a T-casual (€13 for 10 journeys) or a shared T-familiar (€11.50 for 8 journeys) covers most trips to the markets. For the whole arrival-to-departure plan, see our Barcelona Christmas market weekend page.

The airport ticket

Special rules apply to metro journeys to or from the two airport stations. The guide spells them out because they catch many visitors out.

  • Coverage: one metro journey for one person between the airport stations and the rest of the metro network.
  • Not integrated: validity ends when you leave the metro. A bus journey afterwards is not automatically included.
  • Separate product: the ordinary single ticket and the airport ticket are different. For any other pass, check explicitly whether it includes T1 and T2.

Plan the connection to your exact accommodation address, including transfers, the walk to the entrance and your luggage. The airport name alone does not tell you which terminal you will use.

T-casual or T-familiar for the city

Compare your planned journeys per person before you buy.

  • T-casual, €13: 10 journeys in one zone, for one person at a time. Two people cannot use the same card on the same journey.
  • T-familiar, €11.50: 8 journeys in one zone and shareable. Each person uses one journey, so four people travelling together use four journeys.
  • Anonymous card, €1: the rechargeable cardboard card with a chip, sold at machines without registration. It is extra to the fare, so keep it after your journeys.

Neither multi-journey ticket is valid at the airport metro stations. Fares reflect the research date; if you travel in January, check the fares then in force.

Which station for which market

  • Sagrada Família fair: Sagrada Família station on L2 and L5. If you visit the basilica, individual visitors enter on Carrer de la Marina.
  • Festivalet: the FAQ names Sant Andreu on L1 as the metro reference point. The venue is Fabra i Coats, Carrer de Sant Adrià 20.
  • Harbour fair: navigate to Fira de Nadal, Moll de la Fusta or Moll de Bosch i Alsina, near Drassanes. Searching for Barcelona harbour is too broad.
  • Santa Llúcia: use Avinguda de la Catedral as your destination.
  • Gran Via: note the cross street for your section, for example Comte d'Urgell or Calàbria.

TMB's planner has an accessible-route filter and live lift status, which helps if you travel with luggage or a pushchair.

Metro hours over the holidays

On 24 December the metro runs from 05:00 to 23:00. On 31 December it runs all night. The final time refers to the last train leaving the end station, so plan your return with a buffer. Buses keep their own timetables, and continuous metro service on New Year's Eve does not mean every bus runs all night.

For your flight home, check the terminal, the required arrival time and the timetable for that day. The guide's advice is plain: the metro's closing time is not a sensible time to start leaving your hotel.

Frequently asked questions

Is the T-casual valid on the airport metro?

No. It is not valid at Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 on L9 Sud. Use the airport ticket or a pass that explicitly includes these stations.

Does the airport ticket include a bus transfer?

No. It is not integrated, so validity ends when you leave the metro.

Can I pay by card at the market stalls?

The guide does not state payment rules for the stalls and notes that conditions can differ. It gives the phrases Puc pagar amb targeta? in Catalan and ¿Puedo pagar con tarjeta? in Spanish.

Fare tables, a sample budget and accessibility notes are in the Barcelona Christmas Markets 2026 travel guide.

Research status: 28 October 2026, as stated in the guide. Dates, times and prices are planning information and can change, so check the official sources before you travel.
